Simplified proposal for the temperature field of steel-reinforced CFST columns exposed to fire

Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns are composite sections that may contribute to reduce the environmental impact in construction through a more efficient use of resources. By embedding profile inside CFST section, new typology is generated, so-called steel-reinforced concrete-filled (SR-CFST) columns, which enhance not only structural capacity these at room temperature but also their fire performance. This paper focuses on studying thermal behaviour SR-CFST under conditions, for purpose two-dimensional finite element model was developed by authors and validated comparing distribution results with experimental tests available literature. Subsequently, parametric studies were carried out analyse influence relevant parameters – cross-section shape, outer tube thickness, inner dimensions, section factor over cross-sectional exposed standard ISO 834 fire. Using data obtained from studies, simplified proposal derived. In presented proposal, divided onto four components (hollow tube, concrete infill, web flanges) equations tables statistical processing order find representative equivalent each part section. doing so, reduced column given resistance period can be easily evaluated using single strength stiffness value component corresponding its assigned temperature. approach helpful practitioners design process current provisions Eurocode 4 Part 1.2 do provide guidance predicting field.
